replacement windows in new construction
I had a guy tell me if he was building a home he would use vinyl replacement windows instead of new wood/vinyl clad windows. He says that the wood and vinyl or metal will always seperate. Has anyone heard of this. Also has anyone had good luck with a certain brand of replacement window?

I've had Andersens for 15 years and there has been no separation of the vinyl from the wood, nor any other deterioration of anything.
There are all-vinyl windows very similar to replacement windows, but they are designed for new construction in that they have integral vinyl nailing flanges. Could this be what he really meant? Otherwise, he needs to build jambs, sills and casings for the replacement windows to sit in.

I agree with answers given by both Wayne and Mojo....good grade windows won't seperate, and they do make all vinyl, new construction windows...which you are better off using instead of opting for a vinyl replacement unit in the same situation.
I ask what part of the country you are from, because a buddy of mine who recently came back from Las Vegas told me that a contractor told him that all windows being installed out there were of the solid vinyl variety due to the extreme heat conditions. This contractor claimed that other types of windows simply were not holding up.
THIS is the only instance that I or my buddy ever heard that all vinyl windows were the perferred norm over brand names such as Anderson, Malta, and Pella. ( to name a few) And though we were told this, I'm not even sure this is the case in Las Vegas...may be only one person's point of view. The new homes being built that my buddy was priviledged to see, did contain all vinyl window units, but he was only looking at one established housing tract out there...there are many tracts being built upon out there and who really knows what is being used is anyone's guess. Would be nice to hear a few posts from Vegas contractors about this subject.
Simonton is a manufacturer of all solid vinyl windows...both for new construction, and for replacement varieties. I believe their website is http://www.simontonwindows.com They are located in Parkersburg, WV but will ship to just about anywhere.
I'm sure there are other companies who specialize in this same sort of thing as well.
Personally, I like the all vinyl window...they have come a long way in their development and performance...and usually remain more economical in price. But, it all depends on the look ( both interior as well as exterior) that you are trying to accomplish with your house design.
LOL.
