Hi gang,
I gutted a room today that had been finished with Homasote wallboard which is that old cardboard type of wallboard. Anyway, the stuff I pulled off was 7/16″ thick. Would anyone like to weigh in on whether I should use 3/8 or 1/2″ sheetrock to refinsh the walls? I could see either one working ok with a 1/16 difference in thickness around the windows and doors.
Opinions? Thanks for the help.

3/8" sheetrock will tend to wave between studs, 1/2" is standard for walls and will remain flatter. If it's a bargain job or an out of the way place like a closet or laundry room then 3/8" will work, but I would use 1/2" on the wall and 5/8" on the ceiling anywhere where the apearance would matter.
