A big “Thank You” to ProWoodworker (who asked the question in March 2001) and the many respondents (Ron Rosa, Joseph Fusco, Steve Turner, Pete Draganic, et al) concerning the replacement of a rotten sole plate.
This put a delay into my fiber cement endeavors but I was able to replace 16 feet of 2×4 at the bottom of my 1941 2-car garage by screwing 2×8’s to the studs at about a 4′ height and using a pair of screw jacks on adjustable heavy duty tubes. I used a Sawzall to cut the nails, took it slow with the jacks, and slotted the new PT 2x for the new anchor bolts.
