I went to replace a second story window in my house recently and found out that the header above the window was damaged by water. This also included part of the top plate. The damage is only located in an two foot area from an overflow of a clogged gutter. The king studs and the jack studs are OK. I have already jacked up the ceiling with extra 2×4’s. There is no deflection in ceiling joists. I plan on replacing the headers with an existing 2×4 and 2×10. I also plan to replace the top plate with 2×4’s and a steel mending plate to join the new top plate to the old top plate (Simpson). Any other suggestions?
