A couple of years ago, a FHB poster referred me to Hub Construction Specialties in southern California (http://www.hubhasit.com). It’s a great resource–I could have spent hours browsing their tools and materials.
Now I live in northern New Jersey. Do you know of similar businesses? I live in Ridgewood but the business doesn’t have to be in Bergen County. In fact, since Bergen still has blue laws, I have to drive to a neighboring county to go shopping on Sundays.
Hub carries a LOT of push brooms made with a variety of bristles (before that, I’d only ever seen palmyra brooms and Rubbermaid plastic junk). What is the best material for sweeping sawdust off a concrete basement floor, and pine needles and leaves off a blacktop driveway?–or is it better to use two different brooms?

You might want to check Janitorial Supplies.

Bill,The broom question is tangential; I probably should have posted it separately. I'm looking for a business that sells construction supplies.Janet

In Bergen County??? You want to know where to buy construction supplies in Bergen County??? Well, why didn't you say so??? (if memory serves, that's the way they talk there, with BIG gestures too. LOL)
No wonder you came back to BT...<G>. But you should've asked us about moving to Nu Joisey BEFORE you made that decision. Now you're SOL. ;-)
Dis...claimer is a disclaimer: The above is considered good natured ribbing between NYers and New Jersey residents. Goes on pretty much continuously.BTW, if you use the word "tangential" in Nu Joisey you should anticipate being asked if you're a nudist.

jyang,
Really building supplies in Bergen County,I see you're in Ridgewood, you probably can't leave your house without running into a building supply place.
Go over to RT17 head north or south , look around , Home Depot, Paramus Building Supply,Dykes lumber,Kuiken Brothers.
Not RT17, Midland Lumber,Glenrock Building Supply. Vince Carbone

Vince, that was my first thought too but, as you see, I couldn't resist the temptation to bust chops. ;-)
HVC,
We both know that on that section of RT17 between Lodi and say Upper Saddle River,
you can find anything made in the world today. Vince Carbone

Yep, and north-eastern NJ has quite a few of the sweat shops that make it too.

Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming
WOW!!! What a Ride!
Forget the primal scream, just ROAR!!!

"Some days it's just not worth chewing through the restraints"
you need two brooms
fine for the basement
course for the driveway
course won't get all that you want up in the basement
fine will be too much resistance/too hard to push on the drive....plus it will wear out quick.
