sorry for not being more specific, but the current timber beam has suffered some considerable termite damage, all of the damage is isolated to the timber and a single verticle support, which i believe was their point of entry. previous owners had covered up the damage with sistered 2x10s on either side of the beam. i discovered the damage while tearing out their shipshod basement upgrade. as for the other questions, their are two bearing walls on the first floor, they are the walls of a hallwaycentered over the beam, as for the cieling joissts i was planning on sistering another 2×6 to every 2×6 cieling joist, what is your opinion of this practice, i know this involves alot of work, including predrilling and unconnected all switch legs and cieling lighting circuits, not to mention the cost involved of purchasing approx 66 2x6s. also have to bag all of the blown in insulation already in place in the allic. put my first point of order has to be this beam replacement. any and all advice openly welcomed, thanks.
