Here in Los Angeles it in unfortunately common to reside homes with stucco rather than replace the failing clapboarding or shingles. Up goes the chicken-lath, sploot goes the stucco, and another beautiful old Craftsman or California bungalow bites the dust. It’s an apparently cheap fix, done often here, much like the vinyl and aluminum siding retrofits done back east. They, of course, are easier to remove.
My question: would it be practical to remove this added-on stucco and reside the house in the original material? Has anyone done this? Can anyone suggest stucco removal techniques?
Thanks.
