Just to further the ever-growing debate regarding roof ventilation– Any thoughts on the need (or lack thereof) for a ridge vent in a cathedral ceiling in Los Angeles? The weather is overall mild, occasionally blazing hot, and once every hundred years we have rain like we did last winter. Rafters are 2×12, with comp shingles above and 5/8 drywall below. R-19 fiberglass inside. Ridge beam is 6×12, with a 3-1/2 in 12 roof. Essentially it’s a bunch of long, thin, airtight boxes on 16″ centers all lined up in the sun/rain/whatever.
And does anybody know of a manufactured ridge vent that would accomodate a 6x ridge beam?
thanks in advance.
