Anybody have experience with this thing? The idea is intriguing and it would stack better and be easier to tote in and out of client’s houses. But if it sucks….er….doesn’t suck…..well, you know what I mean, I won’t waste my time. Would be especially cool if it was strong enough to stand on.

My benchmark is an old Craftsman “screamer” 16gal.? with a Cleanstream filter. Works great, but big and clumsy.

Know what you mean about that big clumsy Crapsman. Mine seems older'n me but I do have to say that it sucks better than....well...It really is a fantastic screamer. Better be for its size and decibel levels.
I've been thinkin;' bout gettin' a new sucker too. something a little quieter and smaller.
Somehow this all sounds a little sexual...sorry. That Ridgid looks like a toy. Wonder if anyone has any experience with one too.
The Fein's seem pretty cool but pretty expensive. The ones with the dust collection add ons seem to maybe make it worth it.
Wonder if CAG scored the one he was jawin' about. He probably told his new bride it was a Christmas gift for her...LOL

I didn't see a price-- do you know how much it is, and whether it will be stocked in all the HD stores (or just online)?
I didn't see any mention about noise level -- so if they don't say, I would guess it's a screamer.
However, it is the most intelligent design I have seen for a carry-along contractor vac.

$89, Saw a pile of them in a Depot Sunday. Initially thought to myself, "I'm holding out for the Fein"...now reconsidering because it seems so unique . You're right about the intelligent design, and if it doubles as a stool, man, that seems about perfect.PJ

I have that SG4000 that Bill Hartman talks about, and it is a good vac. But I think the one you found is an even better, more convenient configuration. If my local HD carries the new version, I am going to pick one up, or at least look at it carefully. I have one of the Feins -- the middle size -- and it is a great vac, especially if you want the tool activated thing. But I think this Ridgid would be way easier to carry around for general job site clean up. And it is a whole lot cheaper.********************************************************

no experience with that particular one ... saw it in a HD last month or so ...
I do have the other "little" Ridgid shop vac. Got it last XMas ...
forget the stats on it ... but it's roughly that same size ... comes with a storage rack and a bunch of accessories that never made it to the van ... wish I coulda got it w/o the damn storage rack and saved a coupla bucks ... anyways ... more junk for the basement I'll never use.
That one ... is a great little vac .... suction qualifies it as not so little.
noise isn't too bad either ...
Big work still goes to the olf craftsman ...
and the fine wood working duties are served by the Fein with the auto on/off ... well worth the high price tag ... makes for better cutting inside someone's house/garage.

I think that this is basically a repackaged version of the SG4000 which is the WD4050 plus the rack and extra hose.http://www.ridgid.com/Tools/4-Gallon-Vac/index.htmThey all use the same filter VF3500 and the same 5 "HP".I have the SG4000/WD4050 and like it. But having everything selfcontained is would really be nice.Lowes has a new Shop-Vac that looks like it is for the same market.http://www.lowes.com/lowes/lkn?action=productDetail&productId=127133-20097-2512411&detail=desc&lpage=noneI could not find it on the Shop-Vac web site so I don't know if it takes standard SV filters or not or if it has a DW dust bag available or not.
I have the four gallon and it is great. It is pretty loud but has great suction and is easy to carry in and out with out the worry of dings on the walls.
Like I said.my old Crapsman vac is reallyyyyyyy grrrrreat but seriously loud....just for the F of it I looked on their website at the new ones. Might just blow your mind if you take a gander at the prices...WOW! And thats Capsman. Who'd a thought? Then again if theyre made as well as my old one its probably worth it. I'm even using the same filter it came with...I think we're talking about fifteen years old or better.
I'd love a Fein with the automatic tool on off gizmo but we're talkin' a lotta dough. although........hmmmm
Ebay here I come.

got my fein by hanging 5 prehung doors for a fein salesman coupla years ago ...
he sold big industrial equipment to steel mills ...
but could still order out of their catalog ... called a week or so after I finished their kitchen ... as he was in the midst of making their basement into a big playroom for the kids ... the first of those 5 doors didn't go so smooth.
asked what it'd cost .. I said ... a Fein vac!
next weekend went in and hung all his doors ... drove home with a brand new shop vac. After having one ... I'd replace it with no thot what so ever. Well worth the asking price.

I've owned a craftsman and a rigid. The rigid has outperformed the craftsman.

Got it for Christmas, DW was with me in the Depot and said get it. Since she is the one who does most of the clean-up on the site I agreed. I liked the looks of the hang-up version but liked the self contained storage part. It has plenty of suction, have not tried the blowing part. It is not too noisy.
Thanks for the report. I was in the Depot Friday and asked if it was designed to stand on. The lady called someone and they said " I dunno, try it" so I did. Felt pretty solid but it was also in the box so the flip up ends were covered. I'm about ready to pull the trigger, but think I'll wait to see the Visa bill from Christmas :). Keep me posted on your impressions, if you would.PJ

Will do, not sure I would stand on it. We used it at our son's where I had to put in a 30" range where a 27" drop-in had been. Ended up dismantling 72" of cabinets to make it work. Thanks to Dino and the EZ and Bosch Fine Cut saw to cut shelves it went well but took a while. Vac was not too loud and did not wake grandaughter #3 who was three weeks old at the time.
I have one of the smaler round Ridgids and have no problem with it , just a little awkward to fit in the truck and if you do not pick it up with two hands it may seperate the tank from motor and spill trash. Plus the attachments can fall off. These are common to all of this type. I have at least three of the Sears larger versions. I see no immediate need for 16 gal capacity unless you are doing leaves. It would be nice to have a wand extension though.
I had bought one of the first DeWalt corded/battery ones and took it back without ever picking any thing up with it. Kind of thought it was a $99 joke. (And I am a pretty big DeWalt fan).
I wrap a short tie-down under the vac with it clipped to both handles. With it tightend down, I no longer have those "WHOOPS" moments with my Craftsman vac. I also got an aftermarket HEPA filter for it - just shake it out when it gets clogged with fine drywall dust!Rebuilding my home in Cypress, CA

I had planned to do something to fix it and that would work. I think that if you put a little duct tape over the little nubs the latches go over to make it tighter would work too. May put some velcro but yours is quick and EZ (not to mention pretty foolproof). Thanks, Bob
