Does anyone out there have experience dealing with rodents underneath a concrete slab foundation?
We had our sagging foundation leveled a couple of years ago, and because parts of it were jacked up, there are now voids between the underside of the slab and the original dirt bed it rested on. Add to that our recent drought conditions here in North Texas and our inability to water regularly, the flowerbeds have pulled away from the house enough for
families of rats–squirrels?–to inhabit the voids. I can hear them around each tub drain, so I know that they might even get into the walls around the tubs through the hole in the slab for the drainpipe and supply lines.
Is there an effective method of extermination anyone knows about?
Thanks

One technique from an old plumber-
find where an egress is and run a hose from your truck exhaust to it; they'll soon be running far away...
then seal it with concrete and crushed glass and/or steel wool.
drop a bag of cement in their entrance hole and let them die under the slab, the smell go away on a couple weeks.
Shouldn't you have those voids pumped full of concrete?
We had slabs out in our street (culdesac) that had sunk 3". The city came out, drilled a few holes in the slabs and pumped in concrete that raised them back to grade.

Ive tryed mortor and concrete but have atually seen mice, or what ever was in there, dig out before the cement set.... The steel wool works very well. Something about the wool cuts their mouth if they try to chew it.

Ah yes, but you need to be licensed by the United Nations to hunt varmints just like Carl.

Sounds like you have a pet ferret in your future.
I think that you need a pro. for your rodent prob. Once they start to breed you will be overwhelmed in a short time,[rodents have a short gestationn period], the pro will tell you how to deal with them. Lots of luck.
