Had a question. Helping a friend on a new construction project and just underwent a “roof diaphragm” inspection. One of the corrections required was that all pieces of plywood must be a minimum 2’x2′ or be blocked at the edges. There were some strips of 1/2″ CD plywood that were about 22″ x 8′ or 4′ at the top of the ridge. Per the inspector they need to be blocked or replaced ( they are already blocked at the ridge but need also be blocked at the joint 22″ below the ridge). Yes, I did ask if it was a square foot minimum or length/width minimum, It is length /width. Had not run into this before but I have only recently moved to CA. and as my name indicates I have not been active for sometime. The plywood is clipped, all rafters/trusses are at 24″OC. Any suggestions on getting around this or retrofitting in a simple way would be appreciated.

I have never heard of this either but it is Cal.. In the future measure the rafter or truss diviide it out so that you can make the width requirement.
Stupid rule as the clips eliminate the sag.
I agree about the clips, although a really narrow (12" or less) makes for a pretty spongy spot on the roof, especially if roofing by hand. I've seen guys use a 6" rip, instead of wasting a minimal amount of ply and putting a 24" rip with a 30" rip.

Shoot I have seen 3" rips!
6" rips are nasty, but I think the Inspector should calm down about 22".
