I know that this topic has been discussed several times. I tried advanced search to no avail. I never could get any results. I don’t know if I was just not using the right words or didn’t know how to use the search function. Anyway—–
I am designing an outdoor kitchen/patio with a roof structure that will also serve as a habitable deck.(+/- 12’X26′) I want a tile finish floor on the deck.
I need no help regarding the structure. I am more interested in the roofing/tile floor aspect. Needless to say, I want to be replacing the roofing/tile as little as possible. Thanks

No pride--self bump
I can't help much, but figure that those who can will want to know whether the deck is enclosed or covered with a roof of its own. Since you are in Texas, I guess you don't need to worry about freezing weather that could hurt the tile if it got wet. I wonder if a Kerdi system with the waterproof membrane would work--make your roof like a shower pan. Maybe others will come along and give you better answers. There is a website for tile called http://www.johnbridges.com, (anyway I think that's it--I laways foget whether there is an "s" or not. That may also help you.
Thanks Danno for you reply, I think? Your suggested link was to John Bridges, offers advice on how to be a gentleman. You are probably right, but right now I have a more pressing problem.
I got a good laugh though. Thanks again.

FWIW (which is, admittedly, not much) I'm on the same page as Danno -- you need some kind of waterproof membrane under the tile. Maybe EPDM, Ditra, then tile.Mike HennessyPittsburgh, PAEverything fits, until you put glue on it.
http://www.schluter.com/6_1_ditra.aspxMy unbderstanding is that Schulter does have a product and detailing for this sort of thing, but I am not sure if it is the Ditra or another. OP should search this site or contact them

Mike, I am aware of the need for waterproofing/roofing under the tile. My concern is the best way of doing this. What is the best roof for this installation.
After I have a roof, how is the best way of installing the tile. Do I float(no mechanical fasteners)a layer of cement board on top of the roofing for the tile or what? What about protecting the roofing from abrasive movement from the pedestrian traffic etc.
I will do the gentlemanly thing and check out the link you mentioned.
Piff's right. Schluter's got you covered (groan!). Look here:
