Got my timber frame up, yeah. SIPS appear onsite in 3-4 weeks from today. I need to hire a roofer to get something on the roof panels ASAP, I don’t really feel like having a ‘blue roof’ for several weeks.
Dilemma is what to use. Approximately 2150 square feet, 9/12 pitch, no hips, valleys, weird angles, nothing. It’s like a barn. We haven’t ruled out anything yet for materials.
One idea was to use cheap screw-down sheet metal roofing and then replace it with something better in 5-10 years. Another was to go full bore and use standing seam or the ‘rubber slate’ shingles. Or, just a plain 30-year arch shingle.
Any thoughts here? Pros/cons? Co$ts? Are there any manufacturers that warranty fiberglass shingles over SIPS? I really hate the idea of a ‘cold roof’ system, only because it means an extra three grand for furring, sheathing and labor. I can put that $3k easily into standing seam if the cost works out.
I guess I just need a guide. I expect to be living in this house for a LONG time and don’t really want to ever replace the roof in my lifetime (I’m 35).

Sure sounds like you want copper. Greencu's the expert, but I've seen it go over rosin paper over SIPS. It's also my roofing of choice, just finished an outbuilding.

You have any pictures, and maybe a cost comparison?
You need to get on the horn and get prices from the company that is going to do the roof. If you want this roof on soon after the sips are on, you had better get someone lined up. Every decent roofer in our area is booked up.
Pretty much anybody can put on asphalt shingles. If your area has a lot of standing seam roofs, you may have a lot of choices with those companies, too, especially since your roof is simple. In either case they can give you a ballpark price over the phone and a firm price with a visit. Don't bother to have them show up until you have decided what you want.
Wasn't my SIPS, as I don't use them, but it was a lot like my pic at 58282.6
Regarding cost, that's going to entirely depend on your local talent. Around here, standing seam roofers charge a premium especially for copper. The assumption seems to be that if you can afford the copper you can afford substantially higher labor rates too. I would hope your area was different.
Doing my own, I primarily consider the material cost. Secondarily, time to install. But even considering my labor cost, copper works out best for me.
In your case, you need to contact available roofers and find out what's available. To consider costs, pay careful attention to life span and reroof. PAHS Designer/Builder- Bury it!
I believe Elk warranties their shingles when installed over an unvented roof.

I would base my type of roof on the style of the house, can you post a picture? or artist rendering? You have a little time as the "blue" roof should last 6-12 months!!!!
