Is it feasible to cut roll roofing into large shingles (36 x 36) and install (double coverage) without edge lapping?
This is so it doesn’t look as ugly as large runs.

Still sounds ugly
Yes it would work - but why?
You would be using twice the product to get double coverage - You still would have face nails along the perimeter
I suppose you could do the same pattern with 1/2 lap - but every butt joint is a weak spot for water infiltration.

is still a turd. What makes you think this giant shingle idea is goinna look any better than the original product?
Blue tarp and tires might look worse, think of that.

You would need to limit yourself to no more than about a 15" exposure to be reasonably safe against leaks.
How steep
What is the pitch of this roof?
And can you be clear of you are speaking of 90# roll roofing or of double coverage? They are two different products
