I am building a 1600 square foot camp which will include a fireplace at one end of the living room. I want to have an exterior fire pit which uses the fireplace as a chimney. I was even thinking of adding a copper overhang that is partially over the fire pit to catch the smoke and direct it up into the chimney. Has anyone done this type of fireplace before and could you offer some ideas?
Thank you

Hello,
Plan to build a steel frame home near Salinas, Ca. and am looking for a
roof material that meets the following requirements. There probably
will not be any material that meets all of these requirements, but I am open to suggestions. The rainfall for the area is about 12" annually and the roof will have about 6:12 pitch. Wooden Shake roofs are prohibited in the area due to fire danger.
Characteristics:
1 Fits with Spanish type architecture
2 Light in weight[~300lbs per sq. or less]
3 Not difficult to apply[hope to apply directly to roof perlins]
4 Will not support flame
5 Durable [40+ years]
6 Low cost(both initial and long term)
