I have roof pitch of 2 1/2:12 on a non-residential project. I know that asphalt shingle roofing is not recommended for pitches less than 3:12. Because of the shallow pitch, I’ve decided to use prefinished standing seam metal roofing for this project. What are the disadvantages of an ashpalt shingle roof on such a shallow pitch?

Asphalt shingles can be used on pitches down to 2/12, though they usually have special underlayment requirements. Check the manufacturer's instructions.
The chief disadvantage is reduced shingle life on the low slope. If you have the budget, standing seam steel would be a great way to go however.
Thanks. The life expectancy is of a shallow pitch shingle roof is a valid argument to go with the standing seam metal roof. The budget is critical though. I'll check manufacturer requirements.
I have a 2/12 roof and I have used the adhesive backed underlayment and roll roofing. Works great, no nails, no leaks. To keep it wrinkle free, use two people on the install.
Metal or rubber. I'd never use shingles on anything less than a 4 pitch.
i've had 2 houses with the same pitch ,with asphalt shingles. neither ever leaked but i didn't feel good about it...... one of them they had shortened up the exposure.
also i'm not in a area that snow and ice dams are a problem.larry
