Hello, building a one-story 14×18 shed and wondering about framing the roof. Any inputs on building rafters with collar ties on site vs buying and spec-ing prebuilt joists appreciated. Haven’t even asked yet at the lumber center, but I assume they have or can get 18 foot 2x8s or so for the ridgeboard? Thoughs, suggestions, advice all appreciated!

your ridge as described would be non-structural so it does not need to be continuous. It is only a placement nailer.

In most cases trusses save time, but in that little job we could have the roof stick framed before the truss company had it's estimate / proposal back.
Piffin is right, if you use ceiling joist. The ridge is non structural. You could use two pieces to cover 18' if necessary.
What they said, plus you could use a 1x8 instead of a 2x
