I’m building a house in New Jersey with a second floor deck over living space on the first floor. Im planning on using EPDM roofing over the sheathing with 4′ x 4′ removeable square framed panels of cedar decking with strips of roofing glued to the underside of each panel. Do I risk premature failure of the rubber roofing? Any other safeguards I can take? Any other suggestions for roofing/decking methods?

What type of roofing are You glueing to the panels? EPDM? I'd make it a softer material than Your roofing, kinda like a sacrificial anode. We usually use insulation board. Skip
*You might consider fiberglass. Check out Journal of Light Construction, Feb. '99. - jb
