Is there any reason why I can’t set a sheet of red rosin building paper over newly installed granite countertops to protect them while I install tile on the backsplash.
I’m just not sure if there is anything in the rosin paper that would react with the sealer on the granite.

I would NOT. I've seen that red paper bleed. And just a cold sweaty glass or can of pop could be your worst nightmare.
I know, just a minute while ya do the splash...then the fone rings or ya go take a leak and some bozo walks by and says "hmmm, I'll set this sweaty wet can right there, there is paper"

Sphere - would you use the plain kraft paper? Or anything else? This home owner is obsessing over possible scratches and I need to put something down for her benefit even more than mine.

While I doubt the resin paper would stain the granite, if you're worried about it, you could put down a layer of that sticky plastic carpet protector film first, and then whatever you want on top of that. The plastic will prevent moisture from soaking through.
That, or just cover the whole thing with masonite, which would actually protect the counter if you happen to, say, drop a tile on it.Mike HennessyPittsburgh, PAEverything fits, until you put glue on it.
I would not use carpet protector. While I have not used it on granite, I HAVE used it on vinyl flooring and it was a biatch to remove the sticky residue. The masonite would be my choice for this homeowner. The Woodshed Tavern Backroom

Red rosin paper will stain granite... does a pretty good job on a finished maple floor, too... arrrgh.http://www.tvwsolar.com
We'll have a kid
Or maybe we'll rent one
He's got to be straight
We don't want a bent one
He'll drink his baby brew

Someday he may be president

That or cardboard from cab boxes is what I always saw.
I'm telling ya, red ros is bad stuff when wet. I got some alcohol on it when using it as floor cover stripping shellac off a railing...stained the poly on the flooring.Spheramid Enterprises Architectural Woodworks

I will attest to Red Rosin paper bleeding through onto un-waxed beige VCT and leaving a permanent stain in various locations."It depends on the situation..."

I hate knowing a lot of things, but I guess it's better than not knowing at all. I remember the GI JOE saying from my childhood:
"Now you know ... and knowing is half the battle.""It depends on the situation..."
Well that's why I came to breaktime. I had a roll sitting around and thought maybe it would do the trick, but hoping and knowing could mean the difference in a few good night's sleep. Thank's!
i'd rough cut a pc of 1/8 masomite or real heavy cardboard,if the customer is going nuts.
if he sees anything ,it's your fault......................

What's wrong with a tarp? I use clean runners all the time for CT protection. If tools are to be set there, cardboard on top of the tarp. Vic
Ramboard. Comes in a roll approx 48" x 100", it's like heavy paperboard. We use it to cover floors, counters, etc.
Ditto on the RAM board - perfect application for this product. Hold it down with wide blue tape to avoid tape residue.
