I went up on a commercial roof to investigate some leaks this week. It is a black, rubber-type material with what looks to be solvent welded seams. Black, rectangular plastic fasteners are on 4′ centers. One was abandoned and it measures about 3.5″ x 1.5″. It is a 2 part sliding mechanism – something like a slide rule. I’m not familiar with this or how it fastens to the underlying roof (doesn’t matter much, but I am curious). I’m familiar with white EPDM material and Hypalon, but I’ve not seen this type of installation before. To make matters worse, the owner doesn’t know what it is, nor does the contractor. The building used to be a Wal-Mart store. Is there anyone out there who can provide me with some information as to what the material may be and the name of the fastener? The only markings on the rubber roofing material appear to be silver printed control numbers.
Thanks,
Cliff.
