I was reading a plumbing book and it mentioned in some areas it’s within code to run drain lines through the center third of a floor joist. Apparently it has to be within a certain distance of a load bearing wall but it’s considered OK to do.
Is this correct information?

I think that is correct--you could ask at Breaktime, they will know, or maybe the site for the Journal of Light Construction. Or ask a building inspector.
