The hinge of my red Milwaukee HD Right Angle Drill case is rusty, making it difficult to open. Any suggestions?

Source control, ventilation, and filtration are the keys to healthy indoor air quality. Dehumidification is important too.

Lube it and move it.
Use wd40 or zep and wet it down good, back and forth, open and close alot. Keep doing it.
Use a thicker oil or spray white lithium lube to keep it nice.
Pretty basic tool box care. You can't leave it and forget it.
Rusty Tool Box
Thanks for the suggestion. I normally store this box on its side on a wooden shelf. I left for a couple of days on the hinge side on a brick fllor, thus the rust.
a couple days? no problemo
When I got my very well used, but had been sitting in the electricians shop, hole hawg...............the lid was froze up on the hinge. Like has been said-the thin metal boxes would rather bend than move a rusted tite hinge. However, after bathing in ZEP, smooth opening. Just never over work it by hand-let the chemicals do the trick.
Then, keep them lubed.

It sounds so dirty when you say it that way!
Dirty?
you want dirty?
I got your dirty right here.
Dirty is getting that hole hog box open so you can hang yourself when the bit bites and spins that widow maker's cord around your neck.............
if you let go so it doesn't break your wrist..............
letting go ain't easy...
when that hawg has your hand pinned to the wall...........
Nope............
and when I use it I always "think" I know which way the damn thing is going to turn when it does bind up and try to position myself, my head, my other body parts for the surprise.
My heart goes out to all electricians out there.
and why pray tell is there a Hi and Lo speed on those fuckers...................
Yeah, I only use the things very occasionally (and I'm not that strong to begin with), and have therefore not gotten "casual" with them. I always think carefully about what's gonna happen if one gets loose.
Would be harder to do this every time if I used them more often, I suspect.
It doesn't take much to slightly bend one of those hinges- which will also make the box a PITA.
If you really want the 'real' box, you can buy a replacement. The plastic ones are an improvement.
Personally, I suggest you begin replacing ALL your 'factory' boxes with a better storage system. While Festo has really perfected this with their 'systainer' system, you can approximate it using a variety of ammo boxes Most tools suit the .50 cal boxes; longer tools get the short 40MM boxes.
Any suggestions?
