.. been remodeling a small 1840’s farmhouse- we were really excited to have chosen demelec foam to use against the stone foundation and on the upper floors and ceilings due to the supposed water resistance, high “r’ value, usefulness as sound reducer, etc. Tonite, another general contractor friend called me up to say he had three fellow businessmen who used this foam and got cancer of the lymph nodes, that two have died from it!. HE said it will take six months before we would be safe to live in the house. What do others know of this hazard?
thanks in advance for your replies.

Sounds like BS to me.

Either BS, or the contractor/HO has a beef with the mfgr ... maybe they think it cost too much, or won't take back damaged excess product ... and now the gc/HO is trying to bad mouth the product.
Whenever you are asked if you can do a job, tell'em "Certainly, I can!" Then get busy and find out how to do it. T. Roosevelt
call up the lumber yard or supplier and ask for the MSDS sheet on it.
Law says they have to give it to anyone who asks.

thanks!. My sub , who does it for a living, insists that there is a brief cure time several days or a week-- guess the question is: "how long?" . he also mentioned that any time you disturb the foam , the newly exposed areas will also out gas. the negative report also referred to demelec being sprayed in closed cavities which this job did not have-- in the entire house, it was used on open walls.. and allowed to cure for a while before the drywaller showed up- by that time , the obvious smell was gone, although i was told that what gets you is what you dont smell..
