I’ve got nearly a half inch of sag in a bay window that’s about 35 years old. It’s in a frame & aluminum sided wall and projects out 24″. What techniques do you guys use for repairing this? Andersen makes a cable support system for their bays that’s intended for new work but I may be able to retrofit. There are two knee braces under the existing unit. It may only be necessary to jack the window up and reinstall the braces…I haven’t started the project yet but am looking for ideas.

Al-- I usually jack up the window with a small hydraulic jack. Be sure to put something on the ground ( 2x12 or equiv.) and something under the window ( 4x4) to distribute the pressure. You can probably reuse the old brackets, but they may need to be shimmed or cut to fit once the window is where it should be. Be sure to solidly anchor the brackets to the wall when you reinstall them. Its a pretty easy job if you take your time and be careful.
Tks, Shep. This looks like an easy one, just haven't done it before.
