Anyone have an opinion on the hitachi NR83A framing gun. I know there is a new model (NR83AA) but am interested in the older one. I have a Bostitch framer but it is “showing it’s age” … thats what I tell myself when I want a new tool or have to replace one.

I'm sure you'll get lots of opinions!
I'm a Hitachi guy myself. Three NR-83A stick nailers do the brunt of the work. Don't really have anything bad to say about 'em. They just work....and work....and work....
I did recently buy the Bostich with the metal connector nose. Bought it as a dedicated hardware nailer, but I had to take it for a spin with straight framing first. Nice gun. Lots of power. I like the balance of the Hitachi better, but it could just be cuz I'm so used to them. Don't know yet about the durability, as it's still new. But I have heard good things. I know Mike Smith swears by Bostich....and he ain't exactly new at this!
We have a dozen hitachi framers. They work well. The nail guy always fixes them free of charge. If it's junk, he wouldn't sell it, because he has to fix it forever. The hitachi staplers is his sales choice too. He's been trying to get me away from my Paslode stapler for a long time...the problem is, I can't hit what Im aiming for with the Hitachi. I will have to switch to hitachi staples in the winter. The Paslode is too sensitive to cold (a lot of dry fires).
I have no experience with Bostich.

Here on the left coast, the Hitachi NR83a is the gun that built the west. I have ten of them of varying vintages, and parts are readily available for all. They are dead reliable, and will take lots of abuse. We have tried lots of different guns over the years but my guys like the Hitachi.
We have three of them, wouldn't switch. They always work, and ours take some serious hits. We build alot of fence as well as frame barns, garages etc., so they spend time in gravel, sand, cement, and never fail. Although one of mine lost a lockwasher behind one of the magazine cap screws, and it will vibrate loose and let the nails down into the magazine head and all. This is not fun to correct, but after taking the mag apart and removing the nails, she works fine. Cant really go wrong with this gun.

Howdy Cole-- Use some lock tite on that magazine screw. I had that happen too and it is a pain. RZ
I have available 5 hitachi, 1 bostich, and 1 max gun for every day use.The guys normally just grab the hitachi, even though the others are newer. I normally use the bostich for nailing microlams, and the max for making parts.
I like the Hitachi because they take the everyday abuse, don't break down often, and parts are just a phone call away. They keep on working and making money rather than costing me money. They don't have all the bells and whistles, but get the job done.My guys are framers everyday and they push the tools to the limit.
