Just got back from taking my daughter to school north of Boston. Driving S on 95 in Southern CT I passed a Tri-axle with a Home Depot dumpster on it. It was a 10 yarder. Is this a new thing they’re doing? Kinda struck me funny. Home Dumpster, anyone?

They are been doing this here in BC for a couple of years now. I don't know how good the prices are, and I don't think they have the large size only small ones.

The HD in Waterford (New London county, SE CT) has been doing the dumpster thing for several years, though not with great success.
I see a lot of remodels and new construction around here, and not one of the dumpsters I've seen have been orange.
When I need one, I have a list of 3-4 I've done business with in the past and are comfortable with their operations and billing. So, HD isn't even on the horizon as far as I'm concerned (and I wouldn't use them unless they were the only show in town, just on principal.)
"I am the master of my fate, I am the captain of my soul." Invictus, by Henley.
I've seen the ads for them in stores and in print - up north in NY for a couple years.
Haven't ordered one yet and don't know anybody that did.

I kinda figured it was geared to the diy type who might not know any better. Lets be all things to all people.Steve
Does everyone call them "dumpsters". Technically, they're not dumpsters, they're "roll-offs" or "waste containers", but everyone I know calls them dumpsters.
Just wondering since I like to call things by their proper names.
Dumpster are dumpsters and roll-offs are roll-offs...anywhere I've worked.
Many around here call 'em "cans". The local HD advertizes them, and I've seen a few around, mostly 30 yarders.

And, 'cross the pond, they're "tips" (sometimes transliterated as "tiff" or with an aspirated terminal "pf").
Locally, mostly, they an "nn yarders" <g>.
None of the big boxes have put in for County permission for access to the landfill. This is no great surprise as getting permission is arcane, tedious, expensive, and blantantly illogical in the ways that only munis can be. It's only been in the last three years that anybody has had the fortitude to bust the "lock" TCW had on local construction dumping.Occupational hazard of my occupation not being around (sorry Bubba)
hmm... anal comes to mind as a proper name :)

LOL
Guilty as charged. (is that a bad thing?)
And in keeping with that theme, it's actually anal-retentive.
Would it be fair to say that you're anal-retentive about making sure that anal-retentive is hyphenated ???(-:
It's like raising 120 kids all going through puberty at the same time.

Ah...finally the opportunity has arrived. I lived in ignorance for a long time about this peculiar term. So please unburden me, self acknowledged expert that you are. Where did this term come from and why do the two words mean anything in that combination? What's the who, what, where, when, why and how of this A +B= C?
It's a Freudian term. Freud thought everything was sexy. He thought going to the bathroom was sexy. He thought that holding it back until he had a really big log to pass was really sexy.So when he needed a term for those who just wouldn't let go until it was the best it could be, he immediately thought of sex. And the best sex meant retaining that log until it was as big as it could get.Anytime you run across a psychological term that doesn't seem to make sense, it's probably one Freud came up with. If it's Freudian, try to think of how the term relates to weird sex.

Wow! Well that explains why my younger sister, the English teacher, chuckled when I asked her what it meant and told me she'd rather that I present my question to someone else.
Whew! That's an insight into dear Uncle Sigmund that I wasn't prepared for. My formal education is rather sparse so all I've known about him was that he's called the father of psychoanalysis. Hey, there's that word again. Maybe I'm onto something?
LOL i don't know if it's a bad thing or not... I'm not anal about anything and think it would help if i was in some situations... ie... if someone doesn't pay me... i just figure they don't have the money... I'd like to be more "anal" about collecting what is mine... but life is way too short and we aren't going hungry... yet

In that case it would be capitalized.
be uppercase eek!
i used to work with a guy who would not loan you a "crescent" wrench, but he would loan an "adjustable open end" wrench. it used to pizz me off so much that i was tempted to buy my own.
Took a vacation to San Francisco a few years ago, and the company there that seemed to have the rolloff market cornered was called "Big 4 Rents". The funny thing was that every can I saw had their name vandalized to read "Big 4 ####".
OK, the censoring got me, so I'll try again. They were repainted to read "Big 4 Peni$".
THe USNavy has been calling 'em dumpsters for at least...Oh My God! years. Ergo, they be dumpsters.SamT
Back in San Francisco in the seventies, I remember them being called "debris boxes." I thought that was funny, and the natives thought it was funny that I said "bubbler" instead of "drinking fountain."
I saw a commercial addition happening last week with Home Depot wrap. Just like Tyvek but with Home Depot written all over it.
I thought that was strange because usually commercial builders don't shop there.

What about the new generation of 'containers' targeted for the homeowner? They're called Bagster and Bullbag. I believe the Bagster is sold at Home Cheapo.
Are those the things made of heavy nylon that look like giant duffel bags? There's a container company here called Tubs that uses them. They're actually kind of handy if you have a small amount of trash to get rid of - they have them on the shelf at the local hardware store; you pick it up there, bring it home, set it by the curb and fill it, then call the Tubs people and they come by to pick it up the next day. For general construction debris from a small remodel jpb they're not too bad.

Ya, that'd be it. I'm only aware of those two brands in my area (Connecticut) The commercials on TV show them being used for cleaning out garages and at at new construction houses. I have yet to see one put to use.
