I can't say how long before it rusts, but rust it will. Galvanized won't cut it either. Pressure treated lumber needs stainless steel fasteners.
Just how many of those "bright common" nails did you use? (giggle)
Dave45 is right, the newer treated lumber eats regular nails for breakfast, galvanized will last longer and stainless is the preferred fastner. You could use copper also (:
Just about as soon as you nailed it into the PT it started to rust. How long until it fails? Too many variables to set a time.
I understand from others that stainless fasteners are the correct method of fastening pressure-treated lumber. Why have I not seen stainless 12d or 16d nail fasteners in Lowes or Home Depot? Furthermore, it seems that the nail gun manufacturers are behind on delivering the new stainless nails in strip-load or coil-load capacities?
You are right about stainless being the right choice for current generation of pressure treated lumber, it is very corrosive. I carry colated strip nails for my framing gun and finish gun. I also use stainless in my coil siding gun. They can be had mail order or from vendors that sell only fastners and guns. There are at least 3 in my semi rural area. Hand nails can be found mail order and in specialty lumberyard. All are very pricey but well worth it in view of having repair or replace in tow or three years.
A mistake is just a mistake, not worth calling you a slut over it.
but there are tales of rust out in a few weeks in some circumstances. Hot dipped Galvanized nails are fine in many locations, depending. Say more about your situation and where these nails are, and be guided to help correcting the problem.

It depends. Is the application inside or out? Outside you need stainless. If it's inside where it's dry it will probably be fine.
