I”m building a new screened porch for a client who wants to be able to use glass part time in the winter. I’ve used dual doors before that have replacable glass and screens which works well for this purpose. However the client wants wider openings(ie 4′) to acommodate the style of the house. I want to build a screened porch that will have storm windows that can fit inside during the winter but I’m concerned with the best way to seal them. Simply putting in stops to hold the glass storm panels in does not seem sufficient to keep the water out. Any ideas, drawings etc.?

See who your local lumberyard uses as a supplier of aluminum & vinyl storm windows.
The one I dealt with made a "storm" window that had a full length screen "rolled" inti the exterior frame, and then two glass panels on the interior tracks for the uppy/downy business. These glass panels were removable, if desired.
They were available in all sizes in 1/8" increments, and in two different frame formats...overlap and blindstop. There were limits to width and length combinations called united inches....depends on the supplier.
Personal experience....48" wide glass is awkward to handle...even dangerous. Our best set-ups for 3-season porches was at the 36" width of opening sizes. Seems to fit the ladies handling capacities better than 48".
The general estimator of unit (only)expense was $100-$125 per opening. We usually wrapped the openings with aluminum coil stock. In the end I found that the glass sash were mostly left in all the time and adjusted as per weather/rain conditions for all season but the most extreme.
