OK, I’m in way over my head here. Doing punch list stuff and I had to touch up some cabinet stiles and doors. The homeowner had a can of All-in one stain & sealer in the garage that my boss “was prettty sure” was what we used origionally.
When I got done, the next day (today) it was quite apparent that the stuff I used was high gloss, and the rest of the cabinets are satin. The color matches, but the difference in sheen is awful!
Before I get any deeper into this hole That I’ve dug, Here’s my question:
Can I just go over the top of my touch-ups with satin sealer, or will the presesnce of the gloss stuff underneath it still give the finished product a different appearance?
The stuff I used is Minwax brand stain & polyurethane in one. I can get the same color in a satin , and I am also considering just getting that and painting over the touch-ups with that, after some light sanding.
This is a good example of #1- why I am not a painter! There is just too much about it that I don’t know. And #2- Why you should just leave some things to the proffessionals. Sadly, our paint department has undergone some major upheaval in the last few months, and I’m basically it. And #3- why I never should have got out of bed this morning!
What would you guys do if you were in my shoes?

Try a little 4/0 steelwool to knock down gloss and blend.
Thanks, Guess I'll give it a go.
