I’m refinishing a 500sf pine floor in a cottage. I do not want to use polyurethane. Could someone refresh me on pros and cons of shellac, linseed oil, glitz or other non to minimally
toxic sealing options?
Thanks. I am a non-professional “handyman”.

I wont wait for Frenchy (shellac) McFarland to come on here and preach the virtues of shellac but it really is a good choice for a floor finish.
You can give several coats of shellac in a single day, the finish is fairly resiliant, easy to touch up if needed. Easy to work with.
I cant imagine doing my floors in linseed oil but thats me.
Others will offer their opinions soon!

I used oil based polyurethane on my Australian Knotty Pine floors.
Never regretted a moment of it......uhhhh Valspar was the brand.
