Does anyone have a design idea for a second story deck which would have a garage beneath it?
I am trying to design this and have not yet come up with the right idea.
The house is in Vermont, So the deck or the roof below it would need to shed snow, preferably without having to be shoveled.
Ideally the second story deck could be built first, underneath could serve as a carport for a time and could later be completed as a 2 car garage.
The deck would be attached to the house.

Generally, this is done with a low pitched roof covered in EPDM membrane, and then floating sleepers on floating EPDM strips to attach the deck boards to.
Any deck is going to collect snow and it will need shoveling. Maybe you were suggesting that you could build a deck over a pitched roof so the snow would slide off but most snow would just sit on the upper deck until it melted through, drip by drip.
Excellence is its own reward!
as piffin said, but you could choose to use a weld down rubber membrane and a 2" skim coat of concrete. The concrete could be coloured and cut in a decorative pattern. If keeping snow off is a priority you could heat the concrete slab.
I missed the part about, "Money is no object"
LOL.

Don't you just kind of assume that when a client gives you two contradictory goals?
Instead of EDPM with sleepers take a look at Duradek. it is a vinyl membrane ment to be walked on. It is durable and even looks good.
