I’ve been looking at security systems for a 1900 sf ranch-style house. The quotes and approaches have varied widely. The least expensive uses a couple of motion detectors and switches on the doors. The most expensive has a motion detector, glass break detectors in every room, and window bars in the basement.
The basement is one open space (except for junk of course) 25X75 with 5 regular basement windows.
Questions:
Is a motion detector enough for the basement? Seems to me that even if it could cover this space, by the time an intruder is visible to the detector, he’s also in a good position to just hit the alarm control box with a hammer.
How effective are window bars? I have them in my home, but I’ve often wondered if you could just break the glass and reach through to remove the bar w/o expanding it.
All suggestions welcome.
