Can anyone recommend a good DIY security system.
Hardwired is preferable. Not a big house but it is far away. I want to be able to have it call me, not a monitering center, and I want the capability of having a temp sensor for freeze. Would like to be able to arm disarm remotely as well.
There are so many systems out there that I don’t know where to begin.

I've seen the websites and that is part of the problem. They have so much information and eqipment available that it is hard to sift through it all. I was hoping for some first hand experience with some of the systems.

I highly recommend the forum at homesecuritystore.com. I also don't suggest using basshome.com after a bad experience (received incomplete order w/ some items not as ordered; zero luck at contacting via e-mail, phone, or fax; disputed credit card charge and returned partial order to distributor; received remainder of order a few weeks later from another distributor w/ no way to return). Think that guy must just use Usenet and doesn't actually run his business.
I updated an older Ademco system w/ new zones for an addition, and it wasn't too hard. A newer system might get you all the flexibility you need. Have also played a bit w/ Napco Gemini system at FIL's house- it has amazing flexibility, but I suspect it might be difficult to DIY program.
