Does anyone know of a categorized directory of commonly used building materials? Something that lists choices for popular roofing materials, foundation forms, sheething, siding products, tile products, wood repair products, etc, etc…
I’m looking for this so I can research what’s out there and available. I checked JLCOnline and Fine Homebuilding, to no avail. Not sure where else to look. I imagine it will be a large directroy, hopefully kept fairly up to date.
Any suggestions? thanx

If you know the CSI Master spec number for what you want you can find all kinds of materials online at sites like the Thomas Catalog, ArCat, Sweets, 4spec, and probably dozens of others.
These links take you to a couple of CSI MasterFormat spec number lists
http://www.constructionnotebook.com/ipin2/CSIDivisions.asp is a good list of the basic master categories.
http://www.umaine.edu/ofm/CSI/MFDivisions.asp?Start=11460&End=11470 has a good breakdown of the specific subcategories.
Personally I like the ArCat site.
Thanks. The links to the categories points me in the right direction (or the most correctest thousand directions), but I also checked out arcat.com and gotta agree it's the better site for finding the actual products.
Looks like I got a lot of researching to do. This forum can thank you for the flood of follow up questions I'll be posting over the next few weeks. =)~ Ted W ~

NAHB has a great web site that talks about all the new building technologies:http://toolbase.org/Part of the problem with it is that you usually can't find any local sources for some super cool product!Or it's one of those materials you see in Dwell. $200sqft eco-green flooring made from #### and old VW beetles.Z
Thanks Z, that's a good one.
I think between that and ArCat.com I've got plenty of homework now. =)~ Ted W ~

Sweets catalogs. They try to sell these to unsuspecting customers but why should you pay to have manufacturer's advertising?
