Three years ago when I replaced my roof I installed 2 skylights that I purchased from Home Depot. The roof is composition shingle with a rather normal slope (don’t know exact figure). They were called self-flashing skylights and required no step flashing to be interleaved with the composition shingle. I installed them as specified in the directions and they have never leaked.
I am now not leaving in the area (Bay area, CA) and am selling the house. A roof inspector said that the skylights were installed incorrectly and must be replaced – said that they needed step flashing. I described the advertised self-flashing feature. He stated that this type of skylight is for flat roofs only.
I no longer have the installation instructions nor do they sell that model at my currently local Home Depot. Is anyone familiar with this type of skylight? Did I somehow misread the application notes? Is this just the feeling of the woofer?
