Setting pressure tank pressures
I’m having a discussion with one of the guys that works for me regarding the setup of the pressue tanks on a well with a solar powered pump.
I think we should set the pressure tanks at about 28-psi, 2-psi below the pump cut in pressure, as recommended in the manufacturer’s insructions.
He is arguing that with the solar powered well we should set the pressure at 5-psi to increase the storage capacity.
I’m not sure that makes sense. I think that the lower pressure might get a little more storage, but that it won’t really be usable due to the lower presssure. I think that if we really want more storage, we would be better off geting more/larger tanks, or a pressure switch with a 30-psi set range, (I.E. 30-psi cut in, and 60-psi cutoff, instead of 20-psi range we have now. The 60-psi high cut-out would still be on the pump’s curve.
So, where do you think we should set them and why?
