I am currently working for a customer that does not want to pay to have the linoeum from his kitchen floor removed before setting tile. Has anyone ever put thinset and duarock directly right over top of the linoeum? If this is not an option what is the cheapest way to prep the floor for thinset and duarock??? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

do you know if the linoeum is cushion backed or not?
I do not think so.
good question!
In a coupla short weeks I'm going back to tear out the tile floor I layed about a year ago .... when the new hardi backers flyer said "now approved for over vinyl flooring" ....I looked at all the fine print and saw no red flags.
NOW ... the even newer flyer ... has real big ... on the front .... "for over all vinyl aside from cushion backed"!
so after a few calls to them and geting no real answers ... I told them screw U ... I'll eat the whole cost and remember which brand I hate when I go shopping.
So .... better to find out if the flooring is cushion backed.
I don't know if there is a cushion back true lino ... but better safe than tearing it out and replacing at cost next year.

I heard about it from our tile pro and you're thread.
Personally if my name is on it, I wouldn't lay on vinyl of anysort if I could avoid it.
Usually if it comes to it, I voice my objection, it's duelly noted, ignored and here comes the tile.
ah well. one day I'll get to do things "my way" he he he
