My brother has laminated shingles on his roof that were hand nailed. Roof was installed about 5 or so years ago. Steep roof. Tongue & groove 1x over beams. Then 3″ foam insulation with 2×4 separators. Then roof sheeting, then felt, then shingles. Recently he has noticed that a lot of the nail heads are popping out *through* the shingles. He says he’s going to have to replace the roof.
Has anyone heard of this problem on laminated shingles? Is that even possible with the extra thickness of the shingle? What would cause it?
