We use Sherwin Williams paint. We do almost no exterior painting. Occasionaly we will remove a window or need to touch up something on the exterior.
Recently I noticed the soffits needed painting on my house. Not bad, a few blisters but a quick scrape, prime and a coat of paint to make it all look fresh.
I look around the shop and find a fairly fresh gallon of Lowe’s Severe Weather 15 year flat white exterior paint. I am surprised and open it up to find not even an inch gone out of it. Someone must have needed touch up paint or something and picked it up at Lowes.
I bring it home and start the soffits. Just so everyone here knows this paint has everything in it you need to paint………except pigment. It is white, not a base, but has no covering ability whatsover. It would not even tint the head of a galvanized nail white. Didn’t even look pickeled. What a product! Guess Monday I need to put out the info not to use that

Dan,
Maybe the paint was bought, the solids on the bottom scraped out, the vehicle replaced, and returned to store? More likely a problem at the plant that fills the cans.

I've recently used a product by Diamond Vogel called "Nu Cling" which is a latex paint designed places where it takes a beating. I painted a door with it, and man that stuff was thin. I think it took me 4 coats to cover. So maybe it's a similar product.
That was the empty can I cleaned my brushes in and didn't wanna dump the water on the HO's driveway.
I REALLY did do something similar, kept my lac thinner that I clean the guns with, but still good for another cleaning, in an old lac can..and forgot. About a month or 6 later, went to survey the supplies for an upcoming job, saw the gallon can and picked it up..felt half full..so I skipped buying any on the shopping trip.
when final spray day came around, I opened what I thought was a half gal of lac, only to find all thinner!!! DOH!
I MARK every can now. And date them.
Not saying that paint don't suck, it probably does, but there could be an explanation you had not thought of, esp if more than one person had acess to the supplies.
