i used to work for a restoration place for a few years and what we would do is pull carpet and pad. remove affected drywall and insulation. spray an antibacterial agent on affected areas( THE CORRECT solution of bleach and water will work, we used commercial products, but ZEP makes some pretty good antimicrobial stuff as well can be found at home depot).then we would set up containment to begin the drydown process. the containment is so we don't have to set up alot of equipment and to generate more heat. after dry , which by the way takes anywhere from 1-3 days depending on your situation, conditions and equipment then we would do a quick light power wash with soap and more antibacterial then insure dry again. seal any studs. as far as the smell goes that should take care of it. if you hire a service make sure they are iicrc (institute of inspection clean and restoration) certified and if possible have been through the chuck dewald school of drying. there are other knock-off schools that work just as well i guess but i know for sure his techniques work. lastly if you opt for a service its expensive because they make their living off insurance work.
