Hi,
As advised in an earlier post I had a plumber come out to video inspect my sewer line. It was totally blocked. He had to snake it first and when the water drained he sent the camera down. My clean out is about 60ft to the property line. He got the camera down to about 85ft and came upon an obstruction neither one of us could ID. It looked like a vertical piece of PVC pipe, white and looked man made. The snake couldn’t get past it but it was heavily marred from the cutter. Anyhow, plumber charged me $265, fair price I thought but should the city be picking that charge up? Any thoughts?

Here, homowner worries about from tap to house. City takes care of Main Line. Tap, grey area.
You found something going through the pipe, how detailed was the camera picture? Anybody drive in some kind of post enroute, I guess that would be a deep post to do damage to a sewer line.
Be nice for those camera's to have a compass so you might have a chance at telling the direction of travel.
I'm in the city so the lot is small, 50x127. The line travels in a straight line to the alley under the asphalt. The cam was all the way over to the oposite side of the alley but being blocked from entering main sewer. Picture was clear and focused but just coudn't make out what it was.I'll call them tomorrow to see what they found. Not sure if I have a claim.
Thanks,
Mike
You should go out and look the site over (if it's not covered in snow) and look for something above ground. Maybe a fence post where the property owner across the street installed a fence, or maybe a monitoring well installed by the city.
Good news. City went out and determined it was a city issue with their lateral line. They will fix it and told me I can put a claim in for the plumber reinbursement.
Thanks all,
Mike
Was there any damage inside? If they have admitted fault, you might as hit them with a clean-up bill too. Anything ruined in the basement?
No damage but I did quite a bit of work lifting up brick pavers trying to locate the line.
Thanks,
Mike
