Hello,
Just purchased a home with cedar shakes for roofing. Although the roof seems to be in good shape, I have noticed that when the wind blows, many of the shakes are loose and tend to rattle. Should these be fastened securely? If so, how do I make these repairs.
Thanks, Mark

Mark Are the shakes on plywood sheathing or 1x? If the roof is dry and You aren't loosing any shakes I'd leave well enough alone. The type of sheathing will affect how You can remedy the problem if You want to get into it. A look up in the attic will let You know if it is solid sheathing or boardes.
*Mark Check the cedar manufactorer's web site I think it is at http://WWW.CEDAR Bureau.org/ I went there once for a client with a cedar roof who wanted to keep moss off of it.
