Hi,
I am working through the lumber list for a 2-story addition to our 1920’s stucco home. The plan at this point is for 2×4 construction with stucco siding to match the existing.
The sheathing on my existing structure is 1x material.
Any sense in using 3×4 sheathing on the addition, rather than standard 1/2″?
Thanks for your input!

Is the 1x material 3/4 inch thick? Might sound like a dumb question, but I recently helped a friend with a house that was sheathed with rough cut 1x that was a true 1 inch thickness.
The only real reason to use 3/4 sheathing would be to match the thickness of the old stuff if you are adding on in a way that will continue the old line of the house. If you are adding on and making a corner, you should only need 1/2 inch. If you ever tear all the stucco off and re-side completely, you will probably be tearing off the old 1x material and re-sheathing the old part of the house anyway.
Instead of continuing with solid sheathing, why not look at using a layer of insulation as a thermal break and vapor barrier at the same time?
