I’m working on my house and would like to know about sheetrock ? The sheetrock in my living room ceiling is showing nail pops and the joints are cracking ! I would like to know If this rock is sound enough to rescrew and retape ? I would also like to texture over it .
Thanks very much

it should be o.k. the builder probably did not glue. you can go back and screw the rock up, retape and cover screws. then paint or texture as desired.
*Yeah, I'd agree with Bill. You may have to pull out some of the old nails if you can't get them to suck back up. You should have about six fasteners on a seam and five in the field in my opinion. (In the field means on each joist). I'd use drywall screws to pull it back up if I were you. If the rock has been sagging for some time, it may not want to pull back to the joist. If that's a problem, let us know.Good luck,Ed.
*I can't see trying to drive the nails again - they already said they don't like the holes. Screwing would be my option -
*If it's been sagging for a while, you usually need extra screws (more than would be used on new work) Where a single screw might break through before pulling the sheetrock tight, a group of three or more can be tightened half turn at a time so the load is spread over all of them.
*Screws. If there is a lot of sag make up a padded T-stand an inch taller than the room and wedge it in along your working surfaces as you go. Moderate lift can be done with screws alone but for the first few temporarily screw using fender washers to prevent the screws punching through. Screw the rest of the sheet using a tight schedule then back out the washered screws. Remember to warm-up and stretch your neck and shoulders before any ceiling work. Unless you do this regularly or are a symphony director your muscles are not used to being in that position and the second day you'll have the posture of a bell-ringer at Notre Dame cathederal. Have fun.
