Getting around to framing/finishing the 1st floor of our house. In the main room downstairs, my wife wants to do something other than sheetrock attached directly to the joists for the ceilings. Room is about 24’x16′ with a couple additional angled sections. Joists run on 16′ between two beams and are 7’6″ above the floor. Her primary reason is to gain perceived ceiling height by having all or part of the joist bays showing. The claim, to which I seem to agree, is that a 7’6″ flat ceiling will be noticeably short (The rest of the house upstairs is vaulted).
So I’m stuggling to come up with ideas that have functional and asthetic appeal. BTW, Only lighting and its wiring will be in the bays.
Any ideas out there by all you creative folks? At this point nothing is out of the question. I know its hard without seeing how the house lays out, but all wacky thoughts welcome!
Thanks,
Steve
