The sweetest of shims are made by Kedgwick Lumber Ltd, out of Quebec, I believe. Bucky Beaver's on the label. I get 'em from Lowe's, a tad more than 99 cents, but they have some veeeeeeeeery thin tips!

*Always try to stay "one bundle ahead" in inventory. There is nothing worse shimming something with a wet shim, and having it dry, shrink, and get loose. Open the bundle as soon as you get it, and put them in a bucket to dry. -yb
*Where ya been Billy?
*BB,That is the best sign off I have seen. It's great!Rich Beckman
*RJTThe guy I apprenticed with made himself a tapered table saw jig that would allow him to turn lovely 1.5" wide shims out of any 2x cedar off cuts from decks etc. You had to keep flipping the bolt for each rip, but it worked like a charm. 1.5" is fine for shimming door and window jams.We all can't dance, but some of us can jig!!-pm

kind of stupid to spend 99 cents for shims you can make yourself. so okay, I give up, how do you make them?
*First start with an 18" bolt of western red cedar, you know the kind you may wish to turn into a bowl. Split it into shingles. I use a 12" chisel. Then break em all up into little shingles. Voila!
