Problem is, the strong back and weak mind will cost you $10 to $12 an hour right now if you can even find them at all! How about using a ladder lift and just send up a couple bundles at a time. I would be leary about having a lot of extra bundles on a slope that steep that could slide and possibly knock someone off the roof.

We're getting ready to set the shingles on an 18/12 pitch roof in preperation for roofing. Usually, while I have the sky track on site for putting up trusses, I quickly put on the sheathing and then load the shingles to the roof; bundles up to 6/12, and then over 6/12 I put up 2x4 toe boards and lean the shingle packets right against the roof.
However, the 18/12 pitch roof is something like 60 degrees, and I'm worried the shingles will topple off and get ruined. Any suggestions for keeping them on there until I get to roofing?
Any comments appreciated. Thanks, Jason
*Jason, When I do a roof that steep I find it "easier"(as if anything is gonna be easy about this)to not deliver the shingles to roof top,but rather locate them on ground close to the house. We carry them up bundle by bundle as needed, rather than risk sliding them down from the ridge. Some people will have shingles delivered and bend each bundle over the ridge but that can be real tough on the shingles especially laminates.Get a strong back and a weak mind to hump them up the ladder for you.Good Luck,Stephen
*Hi Jason,1. Build a couple of platforms that are form fitted to the peak of the roof. Spread them out and divide your shingle load.or2. Set up a scaffold on one side at a time and stack your bundles on the platform. While your at it rent the stairs that go with those sections and work safely.Gabe

*Mark,in my area there is an almost endless supply of guys who will do the strong man act for $65 bucks a day.Assuming the roofers work at a fair pace it shouldn't take more than a couple of days to roof most houses and the strong back is available to help load and unload tools and equipment each day, along with clean up and errand running.Try to get that out of a laddder hoist!I agree staging shingles on that pitch is risky, not to mention a pain in the rear to work around.I bet it would be time consuming to build and dismantle a set up that could properly handle the weight involved. In my area the laborer saves all that hassle and offers a lot of job site adaptability plus gives a young man an entry into the trade.Good luck,Stephen
