Before this Christmas, I was using sandpaper to sharpen chisels and plane blades. Worked pretty well.
Now I have a Lee Valley “stone pond” and a collection of Japanese water stones from 220 up to 8000, and the stone pond kit included a glass lapping plate, silicon carbide compound, and stick on film for the plate.
Now all my tools look like mirrors on their flat backs, and the cutting edges do, too. I can free-cut paper, or the hairs off the back of my hand.
I tuned all my planes, including the new wood ones I made using Hock blade sets, to shave micro-thin shavings I can see through. Planed surfaces feel like they have been sanded to 800 grit. Wow!

Welcome. Congratulations.

Man. You have screwed up big time.
You used to be happy with half-sharp tools that macerate their way through wood.
Now you know better. You can't go back. It will never be the same.
Edited for wording.
