I just had first coat of poly on wood floor, do you guys install painted shoe mould before or after final finish coat? Hardwood contractor is recommending to install shoe then he’ll come back for the final coat. Thanks for any advice. -Ed

The shoe mould is to cover the expansion gap at the edge of the floor. If you coat the floor after the shoe mould is in place the coating can act as an adhesive and glue the mould to the floor --- in which case you've just made it impossible for the floor to expand.
I've no doubt the floor guy is worried you'll damage his final coat while fixing the shoe but that's how it should be done.

Ian, that's a really good point. Also, I was worried about the floor guy messing up the shoe. Thanks for the reply. -Ed
Normally, we do what Ian sez...the floor gets papered after the final finish coat, and, we can't screw up too much<G>
But, I like Jer's way much better, and we have done it like that, too. Floor finishers do two coats, let us come in and run the shoe, all the other trades come in and do their things, floor guys screen the floor, do the last coat...done...oh, the choices...LOL...hey, either way works fine. Don't worry, we can fix that later!
Always install shoe after the final coat on the floors. Prefinish the shoe with one coat of finish (paint, stain, poly), cut and install. Do one last light "tip" coat after it's installed.
