Hi all
A quick question for anyone who might know.
I installed a Empire Wall mount heater (35k Btu) in the shop.
This is the type with intake and exhaust thru the wall, but a low unit, not the tall one.
Has a fan built in and thermostat controlled.
It’s mounted on a drywall wall with all the proper clearances.
Someone told me that it should have a full 36″ clearance above it, which I can do.
Also they said it gets real hot above it and to be carefull.
I haven’t sheetrocked above it yet. Only have a small piece it’s mounted on.
I was trying to decide what to do to be cautious.
In stead of sheetrock, is Durock ( a cement board product) a better choice.
I can’t get any Asbestos board like we used to use years ago.
Also, should I maybe throw a metal heat deflector on the wall to keep any heat away from any cabinets above. Kind of like a Wood burning stove protector, only angled out from the wall.
Any good ideas here?
Jeff

Follow the clearance directions to a tee from installation instructions. I have a blue flame heater, mounted on an osb wall, the unit does not get hot anywhere except from the front where it should.

Wow, I thought my question got lost in cyberspace. Till your answer showed up, my message never appeared here.
I followed all the clearances in the installation book.
I was being paranoid I guess.
I realize alot of these are mounted in homes on just the plain old drywall.
I was just playing it safe.
On a different note, Rez answered me with "Bump". What does that mean?

Rez, by posting, moved your post back to the top where it would be visible.Formerly just 'Don' but not the 'Glassmaster Don' or the lower-case 'don'.
Jeff, no idea what bump means.

Mike,
My apologies for not clarifying that post on your thread.
When you see a word 'Bump' on a post like that, what it means is by posting on the thread it will 'bump' the thread up on to the main listing of the threads at the top of the page thereby presenting it once again to the majority of the viewing breaktimers.
What often happens is someone will begin a thread with a question and will receive no replies immediately. The thread then moves on into it's designated column listing where it sits somewhat out of the main viewing.
Commonly out of sight out of mind and the thread gets lost and forgotten in the archives never getting the question answered.
The 'bumping' of the thread by posting on it reestablishes for another run thru the forum hoping it gets the attention of someone with an answer to the question.

That's a great idea.
I've seen it a few times and never knew what it ment.
Thank you for clarifying it and bumping it.
